We do not send a fill kit.

Opening the Urn

tamb-ship-1

  • You may need some tools to open the box or urn.
  • Most containers are sealed or screwed shut.
  • Most ashes have fragments of bone, some people aren’t prepared to see this.

Tools and Supplies you may need:

  • Place mat or paper: to catch any spills.
  • Screwdriver: to unscrew or pry the urn/container open.
  • Scoop or spoon: you can use a plastic spoon.
  • Scissors: to cut the zip tie or plastic bag inside the urn open.
  • New zip tie, clip, or tape: to seal the ashes inside the urn again.
  • 3 brand new small zip-lock sandwich baggies: to place your ashes inside. Sandwich bags are ideal.
  • Permanent Marker: to label your bags.

Collecting & Sending Fur, Hair, Fabric or other Fibers

  • Label a paper envelope with your name and name of loved one.
  • Fold a piece of tape over the end of one or several hairs or fiber or a clipping of long hair. The tape is so we can find it. Don’t tape it to the paper.
  • Make sure tape can not stick to other things.
  • Label the tape with your name AND who’s hair or item it belonged to.
  • A tuft of fur or short clippings can be placed inside envelope without taping it.
  • Place inside a paper envelope. (NOT IN A PLASTIC BAG! It creates STATIC!)
  • Fold flap, do not tape or lick shut.

Collecting the Ashes or other Sentimental Item

tamb-ship-3

  • Only one teaspoon is needed for your entire order and makes many pieces, I need only one bag of the ashes.
  • I only use a pinch for each piece.
  • DO NOT MAKE EXTRA BAGS unless you have separate ashes for different beads.
  • on 3 small zip-lock sandwich bags write both your name and the name of deceased.
  • Place no more than  1/2 to 1 teaspoon of ashes into first bag and zip shut.
  • Place the first bag into second bag and make sure both are zipped shut.
  • Place the second filled bag into third bag and make sure all are zipped shut.
  • Do not add hair with the ashes. Hair goes into separate paper envelope.

tamb-ship-4EXAMPLE:
Baggies do leak. Any spills detected can shut down the shipping warehouse as they have “sniffers” for bombs and powders and alarms go off. So pack it right. Photo of a baggie that leaked inside the other baggie. Yes, this happens often.

Tip

If you are planning on scattering the ashes please keep a small sample safe at home just in case these are lost in the mail or if you ever want to have future beads made again.

  • USPS is the only legal shipping that you can mail ashes in the USA.
  • Use a cardboard envelope or cardboard box. (DO NOT use padded or thin paper envelope, they rip and contents fall out.)
  • Make your box water tight, use shipping TAPE on every seam and corner. This re-enforces the structure too so items don’t fall out.
  • Taping every seam also hinders the box from collapsing.  Yes, poorly taped boxes arrive flat and crushed, and soggy from water.
  • Image above is an actual package that came to me without being taped and was crushed.  Tape really helps.

  • Include your first and last name and address on your return label.
  • You have already paid for return shipping.

USA SHIPPING OPTIONS AND TIPS

OPTION A:

Shipping USPS Priority mail is inexpensive about $5.  However, technically, it is not legal to ship this way.  What customers do is pack the contents in a sturdy box before bringing it into the post office.  Be sure the remains are packed per the instructions so it does not leak and shut down the facility as it is rumored to have the “sniffers” for powder and leaking packages.  If you need to claim what the contents are simply state they are “jewelry supplies”.  It is rumored that if the contents are discovered it will simply be returned to sender.

Please get tracking, you are responsible for the quality of shipping you send to us.  We can not keep track of your package. Once it arrives here, we will message you within a couple business days of bringing it to the office.

OPTION B:

Shipping USPS Express is more expensive about $30-$40 but is the legal way to ship cremated remains.  The Express parcel is hand carried and is less likely to be crushed from the machinery.  It also has signature confirmation, insured, and better tracking.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

We ship internationally and so can you.  Often times your postal carrier will not ship cremated remains, or sometimes it is required to have special paper work and or a passport.  However, you can avoid this by simply labeling the box that is is “jewelry supplies”.  Package your sturdy box before going to the post office.  If you tell the clerk what it is, they may refuse to mail it.  I have not had any problems of the remains being discovered.

Send it as a “gift” so I don’t have to pay tax as I did not purchase the remains.  However, when I mail it back to you, I have to claim the value as I have sold the item to you.  If I do not do this, I pay a big fee.

Shipping over seas can take longer, to avoid the worry, please get the extra tracking.
